How to Measure for Nursery Roman Blinds
We completely understand that purchasing roman blinds for your nursery online can be quite daunting in getting the correct measurements. However please do not worry, the process is pretty simple and we have outlined the steps required below. The main aspect before measuring is to decide what type of fitting you want your blinds to be.
Recess Fitting
Recess Fitting is when the roman blind will sit inside of the recess in your window.
Depth: We don't need you to supply the depth measurement to us, this is more for your reference. When measuring the width/height be sure to know the exact depth that you're measuring from inside the recess. This is usually around the middle of the recess depth but be sure to measure the depth away from any obstructions such as window handles etc.
Width: Measure the top, middle and bottom from inside of the window recess and take the shortest measurement.
Height: Measure the top, middle and bottom from inside of the window recess and take the shortest measurement.
Exact Fitting
Exact Fitting is when your roman blind will be fitted to the wall, on the outside and above the recess.
Width: Measure the top, middle and bottom from the outside of the window recess and take the shortest measurement. Depending on how wide you want the blind to be, we suggest adding a minimum of 50mm to the width.
Length: Measure the top, middle and bottom from the outside of the window recess and take the shortest measurement. Depending on how long you want the blind to be, we suggest adding a minimum of 70mm to the height.
How We Make Nursery Roman Blinds
All of our nursery roman blinds are hand-made, bespoke to your specific window recess measurements. We know many of our customers are interested in the process of how we actually make your roman blinds and so we've outlined the 8 stages that go into making one of our bespoke roman blinds for nurseries.
1. Measure and Cut the Fabric
After receiving your window measurements, which we will happily assist you with, we first accurately measure and cut your chosen lining.
2. Attach Lining
Our roman blinds come with blackout lining as standard, however there are many types of linings we can provide, which we will be happy to discuss with you. We then attach the rod pockets to the lining.
3. Sew Lining & Fabric Together
We then measure and cut the fabric you have chosen, and machine sew both the lining and fabric together.
4. Create Header
Next we make the header, using buckram- a stiffener- within the fold for a crisp, professional finish, and hand sew the Velcro, which will attach the finished blind to the headrail.
5. Stitch Fabric to Lining
We then ‘stab stitch’ the fabric to the lining. This is a discreet stitch that secures the lining and fabric in such a way that it forms equal folds when closed. The stab stitch is practically invisible on the finished blind.
6. Secure Headrail
Next we secure the headrail to the top of the blind. Our headrails are fitted with a safety chain, as per UK child safety standards.
7. Blind Strings Secured
Next the blind strings are secured and trimmed, using adjustable toggles and cord breakouts, which adhere to UK child safety standards.
8. Footer Hand Sewn
Finally, the footer is hand sewn to complete the blind.
